By Brennan Williams, BlackVoices.comOver the past 10 years, Mo'Nique has become one of the foremost funny-woman in Hollywood. But the plus-sized comedienne's recent revelation of teenage sex abuse is no laughing matter. In the October issue of 'Essence,' the Baltimore native reveals that she was sexually abused by her brother at the tender age of seven."I was molested by my older brother," she tells writer Audrey Edwards during one of her most candid interviews ever. "And even when I confronted him and told my parents, he said I was lying, and nothing was really done."'The Parkers' star said that her brother molested her four times over the course of four years, using certain tactics such as candy to lure her into the bathroom. Her parents, she said, were in disbelief, but she didn't hold them accountable "because me and my brother were both their children, and I just don't know the kind of position they felt they were in." However, the way her parents handled the situation left her bewildered. "My father was very upset, but it never got mentioned again," she added. "I'll never forget my mother saying, 'If it's true, it will surface again,' and I remember thinking, 'Why would I lie? Why is there even an if in this?' I was angry with them for so long, because I felt as if they should have seen what was happening." Mo'Nique's alleged sexual abuse came full circle when playing her latest role as an abusive parent in Lee Daniels'; forthcoming film, 'Push.' Based on the seminal 1996 novel of the same name by Sapphire, the story is a graphic account of a young black woman growing up in a cycle of incest and abuse."My brother was a monster to me," she commented. "When Lee [Daniels] would say 'Action,' I became my brother."Her brother, she said went on to serve 15 years in prison for sexually abusing another girl and never made amends for the abuse. "He still acts like he doesn't know what I'm talking about," she vented in the magazine, which hit newsstands today."So screw hurting your feelings. You need to get your feelings hurt, and you need to get some help."Mo'Nique, who serves as Guest Editor of the magazine, a special issue dedicated to plus-sized women, admitted to being nervous about telling her painful truth but felt it was her duty."It makes me nervous. It's like, Oh, God, what will it do to him when people read this? And then another part of me is like, Goddamn it, it's my obligation to let people know, and to tell women to watch their children."

Bernie Mac dies at 50!!! WOW!!!

It saddens me to bring you this news as I have just learned of this myself!

"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.
She said no other details were available and asked that his family's privacy be respected.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.

ANTM --- Coming in September!!!

Michelle Obama is covering this month's Ebony magazine. She looks FAB! It is so nice to see a Black women on the cover of a magazine without her g-string clad rear in the air. The issue is out August 12th. here are some quotes from the article .

Michelle on campaigning and the American people…

“It has been a blessing for us to have this opportunity to spend this year traveling the country,” she tells Ebony magazine. “We’ve been in almost every state in this nation—in people’s homes, in their kitchens, in their community centers, and just having the opportunity to be reminded of how decent the American people are and how our values are so closely linked, that gives me hope.”

Michelle on her style…

“I do think what you wear is a reflection of who you are. I love to look glamorous when there’s a wonderful, purposeful event that is appropriate. But when I’m in Iowa campaigning with the girls, I am in Gap shorts and a T-shirt.”

Michelle on being a mom…

“My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief,” she says, “making sure that in this transition, which will be even more of a transition for the girls…that they are settled and that they know they will continue to be the center of our universe.”

I wanna Rock right now!!!!

Ready.....Let's go em'.....

I had my girls visit ATL this past weekend and we had a blast!

----------------------------------------------

I decided it's time to lose weight so I'm counting calories and I can't freakin believe ...the little skinny minnie is now in double digit clothes....

Weight Loss Tips

1) Replace bad carbs with good carbs when you can. By that I mean replace high glycemic foods (bad carbs) with their lower glycemic (good carbs) versions. For example, instead of eating white bread, eat 100% whole wheat bread. Instead of eating pasta, eat whole wheat pasta. Instead of eating white rice, eat brown rice.

2) Keep a workout log. It's hard to make progress in the gym when you don't remember what you did the previous time. Did I lift that much weight? Did I do that many reps? How many sets did I do again? Wait, which exercise am I supposed to do now? Was I on the treadmill for 20 minutes yesterday... or was it 30? A workout log will allow you to know the answers to these questions, and this will in turn allow you to make progress. And, in case you were wondering... progress leads to results.

3) EAT! Some people incorrectly and unhealthily starve themselves in an attempt to lose weight. Not only is this just plain bad, but in some cases it will have the opposite effect. Not giving your body enough food will put it into a protective state where it actually begins to STORE fat. Weight loss occurs when you take in less calories as a whole, either through diet, exercise or a combination of both. However, this reduction of calories should be very gradual and be in 250-500 calorie increments. Reducing calorie intake by some insanely high number is, to make a long story short, a very bad idea.

4) If what you are eating has a cartoon character of any kind on it, you probably shouldn't be eating it. Seriously though, junk food is a waste of calories. There are no weight loss tips that are going to change the fact that there is a certain amount of calories that you are going to eat each day, and none of it should be wasted on crap whose only positive is that "it tastes yummy." The food you eat should serve more positive purposes than just taste alone. If it doesn't, you probably shouldn't be eating it. That's actually a pretty good food rule right there. If you've read the food cravings article, you certainly know I'm a big fan of this weight loss tip.

5) Here's one you may know already since it's mentioned on the main weight loss page, but since there are only so few weight loss tips, and since I need to fill an entire list of them, I'll include it anyway. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) eat 5-6 smaller meals spread out over the course of the day, typically every 3 hours or so. Doing this not only helps speed up your metabolism, but it also helps keep you full. Eating more meals more often will make you less prone to becoming hungry in between meals and eating something you shouldn't be eating.

6) Take pictures. No, not of pretty flowers and your friends, but of you, wearing the least amount of clothes you're willing to wear. Before this one becomes a little too creepy to be on a list of weight loss tips, let me explain it's purpose. It's to help you track your progress. To help you see if what you are doing is working. To give you something to look back at and compare yourself to. You'd be very surprised to see how quickly a person forgets where they started at. You become so used to seeing yourself every day that you don't notice the changes to your body. Taking pictures (once a month is good) is your way of reminding yourself. This not only helps track your progress, but it will also serve as motivation.

7) Weight loss will happen when one specific thing happens... when you end up below your calorie maintenance level. This can happen as a result of either decreasing your calorie intake by adjusting your diet, or by working out enough to burn the calories needed to drop below the maintenance level. So then yes... it is technically possible to lose weight through diet alone. Is it ideal? Not really. For the same reason it is also possible to lose weight through exercise alone. Is it ideal? Not really. The ideal way to lose weight is through a combination of both diet and exercise. It is also better for all around health, too. So, while it is possible to lose weight through just one, for best results, put both to use.

8) Drink water, lots of water. A half a gallon a day, at least. I know, I know... this one is far from rocket science. But it is still true and still helpful, and I think that definitely qualifies it for addition on a list of weight loss tips.

9) STOP looking for the magical list of weight loss tips that's going to make losing weight easy or fast for you! IT DOESN'T EXIST! No matter what, you WILL have to put forth high amounts of effort and hard work. Yes, effort and hard work. Sorry to ruin your hopes and dreams, but weight loss isn't as simple as "taking the stairs instead of the elevator." There is no list with a tip on it that is going to change the fact that you're going to actually have to eat right and workout. Stop looking. There is no such thing.

10) And finally, here is my favorite of all weight loss tips. Go read the diets and diet plans page and the weight loss page of the site. Combined they will explain EXACTLY what you need to do in order to lose weight. Literally everything you need to know is there. Read every word. Don't skip a single sentence. When you're done and have read it all, if you STILL feel you need more weight loss tips... well then... tip #11 is for you.

Tips, Tips, Tips

If you're trying to lose weight, in can be hard to suppress the urge to check the scale often. It's better to exercise some restraint, though, because it's very normal for body weight to fluctuate a few pounds from day to day - or even within a day. For example, if you have a large meal, you could weigh as much as 5 pounds more immediately afterwards. If you eat food that's high in sodium, you're likelier to gain a few pounds of water weight in the short term. The solution: Weigh yourself no more than once a week. You'll get a more accurate picture of how well you're losing weight over time.

An Open Letter to All Airline Customers

Our country is facing a possible sharp economic downturn because of skyrocketing oil and fuel prices, but by pulling together, we can all do something to help now.
For airlines, ultra-expensive fuel means thousands of lost jobs and severe reductions in air service to both large and small communities. To the broader economy, oil prices mean slower activity and widespread economic pain. This pain can be alleviated, and that is why we are taking the extraordinary step of writing this joint letter to our customers.Since high oil prices are partly a response to normal market forces, the nation needs to focus on increased energy supplies and conservation. However, there is another side to this story because normal market forces are being dangerously amplified by poorly regulated market speculation.Twenty years ago, 21 percent of oil contracts were purchased by speculators who trade oil on paper with no intention of ever taking delivery. Today, oil speculators purchase 66 percent of all oil futures contracts, and that reflects just the transactions that are known.Speculators buy up large amounts of oil and then sell it to each other again and again. A barrel of oil may trade 20-plus times before it is delivered and used; the price goes up with each trade and consumers pick up the final tab. Some market experts estimate that current prices reflect as much as $30 to $60 per barrel in unnecessary speculative costs.Over seventy years ago, Congress established regulations to control excessive, largely unchecked market speculation and manipulation. However, over the past two decades, these regulatory limits have been weakened or removed. We believe that restoring and enforcing these limits, along with several other modest measures, will provide more disclosure, transparency and sound market oversight. Together, these reforms will help cool the over-heated oil market and permit the economy to prosper. The nation needs to pull together to reform the oil markets and solve this growing problem. We need your help. Get more information and contact Congress by visiting www.StopOilSpeculationNow.com/sos.
