Jay-Z Documentary Shown at U.N.Fri Nov 17, 2:47 PM ET

In a new documentary, Jay-Z is reminded of his early life in the Brooklyn projects as he sees children playing near open sewers in an Angolan slum.
"In my business, we like to say we're from the hood," said the 36-year-old rap superstar, settling in a car to leave the shantytown. "We're not in the hood. By no means. Not even close."
"The Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life" was shown Thursday evening at U.N. headquarters. It airs Nov. 24 on MTV.
The film is part of the rapper's partnership with the United Nations and MTV to get young people involved in the world's water crisis.
"I was looking for a cause to attach myself to," Jay-Z told the audience packed in the U.N. Trusteeship Council chamber. He decided on water "because it's the most basic need."
MTV film crews followed Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, while he visited children living without clean water in Angola and South Africa during his worldwide tour this fall.
The documentary mixes their stories with statistics that 1.1 billion people have no access to clean drinking water, and more than 4,000 children die every day from diseases related to the problem.
In Angola, Jay-Z helped a schoolgirl lug a 20-liter container of water to the one-room shack she shares with six family members. The family has to pay a neighbor who has running water to fill the container twice a day. They make do with that even though the average person needs at least 20 liters a day for basic needs.
"It has to be the size of a jail cell," Jay-Z says of the shack. "You have to think about the shame of having to go knock on a neighbor's door just to go to the bathroom."
He then followed the girl, Bela, to school past open sewers, and watched teenagers retrieve a basketball from black water, rubbing it off before resuming their game.
"You can't even take a deep breath," he said of the smell.
A visit to a rural village in South Africa was more uplifting. Jay-Z donated a "play pump" that spared children a grueling trip to a water hole. The devices are a sort of merry-go-round that pump water from a well into a storage tank.
"So many people that I've seen can't get clean water. It's a crime," he says at the end of the documentary. "I'm on a mission, and I will not forget."
Jay-Z, who recently came out of "retirement" to record his new CD, "Kingdom Come," told the audience he would donate the proceeds from an upcoming concert in New York to Water for Life, the U.N. initiative dedicated to meeting a U.N. goal of reducing by half the number of people without safe drinking water by 2015. Once again R&B Celebrity Beyonce Knowles, who is probable engaged to Hip-Hop mogul Jay Z, revealed to Glamour magazine that she is desperate to have children and she can’t wait to have her own family. Beyonce also revealed that she doesn’t believe she should feel under pressure to be a good role model to her younger fans. However, I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that Pop Celebrity Pink, an animal rights supporter, has slammed Beyonce (according to British newspaper News Of The World) for wearing fur, sending out the wrong message to fans. In other Celebrity news, Beyonce revealed to Elle magazine that the lyrics from her latest album B’Day aren’t based on real life.
There are a lot of things I want and I don’t have. I want a family, kids. I would love some time off. I don’t feel pressure to be a role model. I think people just say I am, but it’s not something I try to be.

It never feels like a formula or a done deal but keeps you guessing frm the start. There's a more complex story and a Bond with a gruff, angry new attitude -- less suave and more macho.

The new guy: Craig has an entertainingly short fuse and a pair of shoulders that don't quit. Really -- did anyone care if Roger Moore took his shirt off? But when Craig strips to swimtrunks and reveals his buff bod, women will drool. Plus he looks like someone you'd want on your side in a bar fight.

Houston reportedly faces foreclosure

Whitney Houston's New Jersey mansion is slated to be sold at a sheriff's sale because she is more than $1 million behind on the mortgage and taxes have not been paid this year, according to reports published Wednesday.
The Jan. 4 sale was scheduled Tuesday by the Morris County Sheriff's Office, the Daily Record of Parsippany reported. The service agent for Chevy Chase Bank, the mortgage holder, sued Houston in June.
Houston's estate comprises two lots, and the sale would be of the lot assessed at $889,300. The adjacent lot is valued at more than $5.6 million, the Daily Record reported. Houston, 43, bought the properties in 1987 for $2.7 million.
Through a secretary, Houston publicist Nancy Seltzer told the newspaper the property was not in foreclosure. A woman who answered the telephone at Seltzer's office on Wednesday said Seltzer was traveling and could not be reached for comment.
Phone messages left after business hours with the service agent, Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems Inc., and the sheriff's office were not returned Wednesday.
Mendham Township is owed about $83,000 in property taxes this year on the 10-acre estate, officials told The Star-Ledger of Newark. The township sent notices after each quarterly deadline was missed, the assessor's office said. The most recent payment was due Nov. 1.
A sale could be averted if Houston reaches a settlement with the service agent, Sheriff's Sgt. Steve Ackerman told The Star-Ledger.

How did you get involved with Top Model?

A: I was contacted me over MySpace … I did't know if was legit or not, so I was actually planning on not going. But I talked it over with my dad and we went to go meet the scout. It ended up actually being legit and I auditioned. A month later I got a call back and I was going to LA.

Had you ever thought about modeling before that?

A: Yes, I started modeling when I was 15 and I have been in French Vogue and Miami Fashion Week three times. SO I had modeled before … I had stopped for a little bit. I thought America's Next Top Model was my second chance to go back into it.

On the show, you talked a lot about your body and were very self-conscious about your body. Could talk a little more about that?

A: [It mainly came from when] I gained weight while in middle school. It wasn't the best time in my life. I was almost 160 pounds and the same height, so I was like a big giant walking everywhere. I had lost weight when I was 15 and I had dropped down to 124 pounds. That was a big, big thing for me. I was confident, I had lost weight. Of course I didn't work out excessively, so I had some zones that I wasn't very happy with like any girl who is self-conscious about stuff like that.
I became overly concerned with everything while I was on the show. It stressed me out even more because things weren't the way I wanted them to be. I just stressed out more about the girls and my body weight--and I gained more weight.

Was it hard being around some of the other girls like Michele and Amanda? They seem very, very tiny.

A: Yeah, it was hard. Like the two of them would equal one of them. It was hard, it was very hard. Especially with the girls like Melrose, who were very skinny and only ate beans everyday. That's all she ate, just like green beans. Brooke was naturally skinny, 'cause she would eat, but she ate healthy. Everybody was just so naturally skinny.

Do you think it was more of a struggle for you to control your weight?A: I was considered the voluptuous one, and all the designers said I was "Miami Big" 'cause I am from Miami and all this stuff. I wear a size three, so it kind got to me that I wore a size three and it was like "How much skinnier do you want me to be?"

A: What are your thoughts about the show, now that it's airing?A: I wish I had a lot more self-confidence and self-esteem. I wish I didn't cry so much, 'cause I'm not a big cry baby like they showed me; the biggest misconception ever. There were people I got along with; I did have friends. I have a lot more self-confidence than when I did the show and I am happy with my body now.

What was it like living in the house?

A: Living in the house--it was wonderful. Big house with a beautiful pool. The view was gorgeous; the only part that was terrible would be the girls.

I noticed a lot of tension between you and Melrose.

A: Who didn’t Melrose have tension with? I think she gets pleasure out of talking about other people just to make herself feel better. She was not one of my favorites. I tried to get along with her, and I tried to talk to her, but it just does not work.It seemed like you became more lonely as the show progressed. Was that true?A: Of course I started to feel lonely. They kept picking the same girls for the challenges, and they would choose their friends. I don't know, I just felt left out.

One the last show, Tyra questioned your commitment level. How did you feel about that, hearing some of those things?

A: I don't agree with it. I put my best forth and I'm sorry they didn't see it. But I do want model, I do want to continue with it. The only reason they (Tyra and the judges) said that was that I could not aggressively dance, but I don't like to aggressively dance. I did not get it. I was like, what?

Do you feel that they just judged you on that little challenge and not your whole performance?

A: Yeah, because think about it. Jaeda has had the worst photos and look at how many weeks she has been in the bottom and she is still not eliminated. She has been the last one 4 or 5 times and she still hasn't gone home. I just don't find it fair in a way, but I think I would have had a nervous breakdown if I would have stayed longer with those girls.

Who do you hope will win?

A: Caridee and Michele. Caridee--just because she wants to do it so bad, you can see it in her eyes that she wants it. She wants to go out there and do it. She's not afraid of anything, like, she'll do the crazy stuff. Caridee is insane. Michele--because there is something about her, like her photos come out good, but I just don’t know. I think they may end up choosing her.
Who do you hope won't win?A: Melrose. I hope she doesn't win because, I would never watch America's Next Top Model again if she won. I'm serious. I just don’t like her. She puts up a fake front in front of the judges and she is a different person in front of everyone else. She looks like a gecko too. She does, I am sorry. I don't like her body posture, I don't like anything.

So, what's next for you?

A: I want to pursue modeling and go with it all the way. After modeling, after I know that I have done it and won't regret it, it would be to continue my education in nuclear medicine.

The film version of Sex And The City is back on track after negotiations with the series' four leading ladies made significant progress this week.
US Ok! magazine reports exclusively that a studio source has confirmed that the long-postponed project is closer to becoming a reality after "substantial negotiations have opened with each of the stars' teams this week." According to the studio insider, "Obviously, there is still a lot to be worked out contractually, but it would be amazing to get this project off the ground.
There is no doubt that fans cannot wait to see them all reunited." Nicole Richie is seeking treatment for what her rep describes as an inability to put on weight.

"Nicole Richie has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on any weight," her rep tells PEOPLE in a statement. "She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."

Richie's thinness has been the subject of much debate – which she addressed in May when she told Vanity Fair magazine, "I know I'm too thin right now. I'm not happy with the way I look right now." She also said at the time that she was consulting with a nutritionist and a doctor, but blamed her weight loss in part on the breakup with her then-fiance, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein.

"She's tired of everyone saying you don't eat, because she does," a source close to Richie tells PEOPLE. "She wants to gain weight. It wasn't anyone saying you have to go do this – it wasn't an intervention. It was her saying I'm tired of people saying this about me, I'm going to go get some tests. It was a personal decision."

Richie, 25, is starring in the fifth season of The Simple Life, but production is on hold until she recovers, according to a rep for the show's studio.

Slinky electronic beats drive things as Justin sings in a lower register than we're used to. Things get even crazier on “Sexy Back,” the hit single and second song on the album. Justin's voice is not only lower but also electronically distorted. The f-word is even tossed around. Neither of these two songs sound like what non-Justin fans would expect from him and that's the point. Future Sex/Love Sounds is Justin Timberlake's breakthrough album, an album that makes listeners take notice. It is a fun album to listen to and makes us eager to hear what he does next.A lot of the credit for Future Sex/Love Sounds has to go to producer Timbaland. He produced the hit single “Cry Me A River” from Justin's debut, Justified, and is behind the boards on 10 of the 12 tracks on Future Sex/Love Sounds. In Timbaland, Justin has one of the most inventive and eclectic producers in music, one who will use any and every sound imaginable to make a good song. In Justin, Timbaland has finally found a male artist whose willingness to break boundaries and try new things ranks up there with the powerhouse female artists he's worked with in the past. The power duo (joined by producer Nate Hills) try out multiple genres of music while still keeping things pop enough to make them crossover friendly. The aforementioned electronic excursions of “Future Sex/Love Sound” and “Sexy Back,” offer us a Justin we haven't heard before. “Chop Me Up,” which features Academy Award-winning rap group Three 6 Mafia, gives us a taste of dirty south hip-hop. We get taken back to Minneapolis (complete with that signature Prince “sound”) on the smooth ballad “Until The End Of Time” and on the funky “Sexy Ladies.”Interludes that appear between songs help keep things from sounding too disjointed. The “Let Me Talk To You” interlude that appears between “Sexy Ladies” and “My Love” works so well that they kept it in the video for “My Love.” Other interludes sound like they could've been songs by themselves. I like the way Timbaland's drums combine with guitars and piano on the “I Think She Knows” interlude that is after “LoveStoned” and the harmonies on the “Set The Mood Prelude” make you wish it could've somehow been a song all on its own.There are two songs on the album that are not produced by Timbaland. These songs are polar opposites in terms of quality. “Damn Girl,” produced by and featuring will.i.am, is not one of the album's shining tracks. The beat isn't bad but of all the guest appearances on the album, will.i.am's feels the least necessary. “Another Song (All Over Again),” produced by Rick Rubin, is one of the best songs on the album. Rick Rubin has the uncanny ability to bring out the essence of artists and he works his magic on Timberlake. The backing music is the most understated on the whole album and Justin's voice is front and center. He just sings his heart out here without any special effects and the result is great. Future Sex/Love Sounds is an album that should result in Justin getting some more fans. Instead of taking the easy route of jumping onto the pop/rock bandwagon or making stuff that sounds like Justified 2.0, he tries new things. It's difficult for an artist to balance the desire to do something different with the necessity of appealing to his fans, but Justin Timberlake manages to do so on this album. If he can keep this up, he can have a nice, long career if he wants it.

The father of the 13-month-old Malawian boy Madonna is trying to adopt said he is afraid criticism of her plans would persuade the pop star to drop her efforts.
"I am afraid Madonna may get angry and frustrated and decide to dump my son because of these people," said Yohane Banda, referring to criticism from human rights activists in Malawi that officials had bent the law to speed David Banda's adoption.
"These so-called human rights activists are harassing me every day, threatening me that I am not aware of what I am doing," Banda said Thursday. "I'm afraid David may be sent back and the orphanage may not even accept him back. So where will he end up? Here? He will certainly die."
The Human Rights Consultative Committee, a group of human rights groups in Malawi, has asked Judge Andrew Nyirenda to review the adoption process to make sure all the laws have been followed. A hearing is scheduled Friday.
Banda said activists tried to visit him Wednesday.
"I hid from them. I didn't want to see them. They want me to support their court case, a thing I cannot do for I know what I agreed with Madonna and her husband," said Banda.
Banda was reacting to Madonna's appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Wednesday, in which the 48-year-old singer said she had done nothing wrong, had not used her celebrity to influence Malawian officials and wanted to give David, who had been in an orphanage, a better life.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, Banda said authorities had not made it clear to him that he was giving up his son "for good" when he signed adoption papers earlier this month. But Thursday, he shifted the blame to human rights groups.
"I was telling these rights groups that I wasn't selling my son. I said I wouldn't ... sell my son for anything but I had agreed with Madonna before a judge so my comments were taken out of context and I hope Madonna is not angry," he said.
Banda said he was not angry with journalists, but added he was spending more time with reporters than tending "to my onions and tomatoes."
Justin Dzonzi, chairman of the human rights group, said the coalition of 67 groups would go ahead with its court petition Friday to protect the rights of any child up for adoption in Malawi.
"It's not like we are blocking the adoption but we want laws followed to the letter," he said.
Dzonzi said under current laws, David, who was taken to Madonna's home in London last week, was not entitled to inherit any of the wealth of the singer and her husband, director Guy Ritchie. He said the child also could suffer psychologically if there is a divorce by the celebrity couple.
"We want these issues clarified," Dzonzi said.
But Banda, a subsistence farmer, argued his son had no wealth to inherit in Malawi.
"That won't change anything for David," said Banda. "Please, let them leave my son alone."

Brooke Hogan's "Prom" Invite Revoked !!!!

Apparently, Brooke Hogan doesn't always know best.
The Hulk's offspring has been bounced from the cover of the upcoming annual edition of Prom magazine due to her scantily-clad appearance on the cover of another publication.
After Hogan posed for FHM's November issue wearing nothing but a skimpy bikini, the teen-focused mag elected to drop her from its cover, stating it felt her image was not appropriate for the Prom audience.
"We don't feel up to taking thousands of telephone calls from the upset mothers of our young promers," spokesman Aaron Bernick said in a statement.

The magazine said that Ashley Tisdale will step in for Hogan, but that the switch would push back its November deadline and delay publication until January 2007.
A rep for Hogan accused the magazine of trying to draw attention to the upcoming issue by creating controversy.
"Clearly, Prom is attempting to publicize their magazine by stirring up controversy over photos of Brooke that they took more than a year ago," Hogan's rep said in a statement to E! Online. "Looks like they are trying to up their circulation."
Though she won't be the cover girl, a feature on Hogan will still appear in the magazine's pages.
Meanwhile, Hogan, along with her family, will return to VH1 on Oct. 22 for the third season of Hogan Knows Best, which will feature the blond-and-tan clan's struggle to adapt to their new home in Miami.
The season will also focus on Hogan's career as an aspiring recording artist, and coincides with the release of her first album on Oct. 24.
With all that going for her, who needs Prom, anyway? (E Online)

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE INVITES PRESS TO THE LAUNCH OF HIS NEW CLOTHING LINE -- THEN REFUSES TO TALK TO THEM!

Justin Timberlake and best friend Trace Ayala invited reporters to the

launch of their new clothing line at Social Hollywood on October 17... then refused to speak to them! As the press anxiously waited, Justin and Trace arrived on the red carpet first, about 1/2 an hour before any other guests. Timberlake and Ayala stopped for a brief moment allowing their photograph to be taken and then bypassed the press, going into a side entrance. Immediately security was told to make sure the entrance was locked up and a curtain was closed over it. "It was ridiculous" says Star's Jessica Schimmel, who covered the event. The guy invites us here to give him free publicity for his clothing line and then he can't be bothered to talk to anyone, so cocky! And by the way, what does Trace Ayala have to be so cheeky about. Even he thinks he's too good to talk to us?" Neither Justin nor Trace said a word as the press screamed for a single comment. The press line was convinced Justin was going to come back out and talk about his new clothing line but he never did, leaving everyone really disappointed. (E Online)

Talk Yourself Up!

Do you have a friend who never really listens to what you say, and when she does she’s always got an opinion about it – a negative one? Friends like this can be a real drain, and though they’re usually well-intentioned we never feel as good around them as we could. But what if that unsupportive “friend” is you? And what if the life you are sabotaging is your own?
Each of us has an inner monologue running through our minds. Often it's just a mental to-do list (Check out that new lip gloss; Don’t forget the hair appointment; Do I have time to go to the gym?). But more often than we realize what we’re really saying to ourselves is full of self-criticism, doubt, and negative thinking (I can't believe I did that -- I'm so stupid; No wonder no one wants to date me with all this extra flab; Why bother trying harder when I'm never going to get promoted?).
The problem with this kind of inner monologue is that it can destroy your self-esteem – a “must have” if you want a life that works. Negative self-talk can erode your confidence, affecting everything from your relationships, to your career, to how successful your diet is. A research study showed that the students who did the best in college were those who believed they would do well – regardless of their actual abilities. A key to your success – whether it’s climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or walking gracefully in new shoes – is making sure that what you are saying to yourself is supportive. And the best way to do that is to turn that monologue into a dialogue.
Step 1: Notice what you’re thinking.
The problem with negative self-talk is that we usually don’t notice it consciously. Instead we’re aware of the ramifications – the lack of energy, the gloomy moods, the short fuse. Start paying attention to that running monologue. What are you saying to yourself as you dash into work late? When you’re running errands do you catch yourself re-living an argument with your boyfriend rather than noticing what a beautiful day it is?
Step 2: Ask, “Is this helping me get what I want out of life?”
Those inner thoughts are the motivators that help us reach our goals in life. You would never yell at a toddler learning to walk, “Why did you fall down? You should know better!” Of course, you’re no baby, but growth and change doesn’t stop just because you can stand on your own two feet. Make note of those thoughts that are getting in the way of your desires and dreams. What are you saying to yourself that is less than supportive?
Step 3: Start talking back!
As soon as you recognize a negative thought, counter it with something positive. If you’re mad at yourself because you haven’t exercised in four weeks, don’t berate yourself. Instead say, “Everyone makes mistakes; I’m getting back on the wagon starting now, and I will succeed!” Eliminate statements that include can’t, never, and always and instead motivate yourself with your achievements. Be your own cheerleader. Literally tell yourself what you do well and let these give you the energy you need to make the changes you want in your life.
Challenging negative self-talk and replacing it with supportive thoughts can undo the damage of years of negative thinking. Treat yourself as you would hope your best friend would treat you, and like a flower in need of a little water you will soon see your self-esteem blossom. And don’t be surprised when everyone else notices how fabulous you are as well.
